day I would like to introduce you to a wonderful sculptor by the name of Jessica Joslin. Jessica was born in 1971 in Boston, MA and grew up collecting flies off the windowsill to look at under her microscope. Ever since, she has been enchanted with collecting a magpie’s array of remnants from the natural world. The collection gradually grew to include obsolete bits of antique mechanical mechanisms, hardware and other oddball artifacts. In 1992, she began building the first beasts of this menagerie, using objects sent in a care package from her father, the same pieces that she’d collected as a child.
I was first introduce to Jessica’s work a year ago when i was making prosthesis of sorts for my skeletons, and creating other worldly creature with animal bones and bronze. I admire her work greatly and even more so now she is working on such an ambitious scale these days- her last piece being a ostrach that come to eye level.
I love the fun in her work and the animate poses she gives each piece, i will certainly take this into account when i return to foundry next month as a lot of my own piece are so rigid! i would really recommend going to her site to view more as there were just so many I wanted to show here!
