Avian Influences ~ Alexander McQueen Spring 2008

I just couldnt go offline after showing some taxidermy couture and not mention of of my heros in the world of fashion- Alexander Mcqueen who work was very much inspired by the theme of memeno mori and the macabre, who created silver corsets that appeared like curling spines. Who fashioned beautiful clothing out of  gazelle horns, real flowers, dung beetles and dead birds. The above collection was shown at the spring 2008 show which was in memory of his late friend, muse and stylist- Isabella Blow. The woman credited with discovering Alexander when he was just a student. Isabella Blow, who took her own life after a long bout with depression, was the inspiration not just for this collection but a muse for the work of Mcqueen. Blows suicide in 2007 “just left a big void in my life,” McQueen told W magazine.
